Photographer Carlos Miller Assaulted by Miami-Dade Metrorail Security Guards

A photographer by the name of Carlos Miller and his companion were viciously attacked by security guards working for private security company called “50 State” while taking pictures at Miami-Dade Metrorail on Sunday January 20, 2013. As is apparent, the photographer was not doing anything illegal but because the assault and apprehension did take place, Carlos Miller was charged with “producing loud or excessive noise“. I’ve said it before and will say it again – everything you do is illegal. Laws are written in such a way so that no matter how law abiding a citizen you are, if the authority wants to nail you with something, they will.

In the video, the 50 State security guards can be seen harassing Carlos Miller verbally, then tackling him by dragging him down an escalator and putting him in handcuffs. The guards seized the cameras of both photographers with a claim that filming was not allowed, but these were later returned without being tempered with. Obviously, the claim that filming was not allowed was false.

50 State security personnel are contracted by the Miami Dade county government, so they’re the government’s extension, even though the company is privately owned.

Carlos Miller filed a lawsuit against the Miami-Dade County for abridging his First Amendment right to freedom of the press in 2011 for filming at a different Metrorail location. After this 2013 incident, the lawsuit has been amended. The photographer was also arrested by police for filming during Occupy Miami protests in 2012.
