Humanity has sunk into a new low. Recently, a war veteran and two reverends namely Arnold Abbot, Dwayne Black and Mark Sims are threatened, arrested and facing 60 days in jail and a $2,000 fine for violating a new city ordinance that prohibits the feeding of the homeless in public. Four police cars and six uniformed troops arrived at the scene to put an end to the three elderly men’s so called ‘criminal offense’.
I always believed in the sense of altruism in every individual and these three men advocate this ideal. Since when did an act of kindness become a criminal offense? I guess it starts now. It’s sad to think that these men who are trying to spread the things they believe in as priests are prosecuted. And well, let’s also put into consideration that these aren’t young men or able bodied men but men who probably belong in a nursing home. I don’t think my conscience can actually try and threaten an old man unless he threatens me with a rifle but well, a policeman did just that, screaming at Abbot to drop the plate he was holding.
Abbot planned to bring food again and share it to those who are less-fortunate, even though he expects that he would be filed another charge. I admire this old man’s courage.
What do you think about this? I’d very much love to hear your thoughts.
UPDATE
I’d like to clarify that Mr. Abbot is a WWII veteran and not a priest. I thought he was because my content source mentioned that he was a priest. Sincerest apologies about that.
I am expressing my gratitude to Der Kopfsammler. Thank you for pointing out that error.
